Say to Pay
Experiential + Product Design
Say to Pay transforms a simple vending machine interaction into a playful, language-learning experience. Instead of paying with currency, users receive their drink by asking for it in the drink’s native language. Like a Duolingo lesson, the machine offers hints and guidance, making the process approachable for all skill levels.
The flow is simple—select, speak, get feedback, succeed—with gentle prompts for retries. The UI is designed for public-space usability with large touch targets, clear typography, and high-contrast visuals, while friendly error recovery and repeatable moments encourage retention. Under the hood, speech recognition pairs with a lightweight rules engine to match phrases to orders, allowing language sets to scale cleanly.
This concept is speculative, and not an official Duolingo project.
